    Beautiful Pen, but Weak Spring

I purchased this pen kit and assembled it, only to find the spring that comes with it is very weak. When you try to write, the tip of the refill goes back into the end of the pen. Went to my local Woodcraft for a replacement spring. The guys in the store were helpful, as always. Even tried the springs from other Kojents in stock, but found they were weak, too. Ended up purchasing a package of springs from Grainger. Works great now. I belong to an online pen turning group and found through previous posts that this problem is fairly common.

Has potential but also some major flaws

First a few positives, the kit is well made and does not feel cheap, the length of the finished pen is just right and the overall appearance of the kit is beautiful. Now let me share some of the negatives, the spring that comes with this kit is too weak which causes the ink cartridge to retract if you write with a bit more pressure than usual, this is an issue that has been reported to me by other turners as well. I had to use a stiffer and longer spring in order to get the cartridge not to retract when someone writes with it. Also, the internal metal of the nib section can be machined a bit deeper so that the ink cartridge protrudes out maybe just a millimeter more than it is currently showing. Because of these two major flaws, I would not purchase this kit until these issues are addressed, I would not sell a pen to an outside customer that has these issues. This is really a shame because this kit has major potentials to be one of the best kits I have ever worked on.

    My favorite capped pen

I absolutely love this kit. It goes well with just about any blank. I always try to buy as many kits as I can afford at the time of order.
