The WoodRiver® Ceramic In-line Vegetable Peeler Turning Kit features a heavy-duty casting that holds the ultra-sharp peeler blade made of zirconium oxide ceramic, which is second only to diamonds in hardness and remains sharper longer than any steel. Using a 3/4" x 3/4" x 5" blank, bore a 1/4"-diameter hole 7/8" deep. Mount the blank between centers, using a four-jaw scroll chuck or spur drive combined with a 60 cone, turn to your desired profile, sand up to 320 grit, and apply a finish of your choice. Using either a thick CA or five-minute epoxy, apply adhesive to the rings on the peeler and insert into the turned handle. Be sure to wipe of any excess adhesive. This is a great kit for beginners and professional alike.

    Definitely Not Worth It

This is a sub-par manufactured item. The ceramic blade is very fragile and prone to snapping. It WILL NOT hold up in the long term. Save your money and buy a different peeler kit if you're interested in peelers specifically. There are far superior options out there.

Nice product, but be careful it will cost you.

I made a handle a year ago and worked really well. I used it nearly every day. I just bought four as gifts broke one assembling. Called to order replacement blades which cost me more than what I paid for the whole unit on sale. That is not customer care, that's gouging.

Very good unit if you handle it with caution.

I built about 10 of these for Christmas Presents two years ago. Including one for us. I included instructions for use with each. They work fine if you are easy on the cutter. The cutter is very sharp, so going easy with it works fine. I did finally break one, after about a years use. I bought several extra kits, when they were on sale, so I just put a new blade on ours. It still works fine (2 1/2 years now).

    Broke before use

I turned an acrylic handle, polished and started to assemble the cutter. The blade broke while I pushed the head and handle together. I see, from other reviews that a replacement blade is not available. Keeping that in mind, I would suggest that you not purchase this kit.

    Could be better

Love the idea, but the ceramic blade and plastic housing is garbage. Gave several out as presents last year and most have broken already. Would be a 5 star product if the blade was metal and bi-directional.

    Blades

Nice piece and very sharp The only problem i have us they need to offer replacement blades because they do break. Once the blade breaks the rest is trash.

    Excellent but delicate

Turning a handle for the peeler couldn't be easier. I cracked one side of the peeler (looks like plastic but the description says "ceramic") while trying to insert it into the handle. There are no directions that I could find to explain how to assemble w/o risking breaking the piece. Anyway, I took the ceramic peeler out, assembled the metal frame to the wooden handle and then CAREFULLY reassembled the cutter into the metal frame. That cutter is sharp! Anyway, the crack was minor enough that I could use the peeler. The wife and I both like it a lot. As noted, it is right handed by design. I plan to make 3 more for my kids for stocking stuffers.

look s ok but time will tell

I bought this because it's a side peeler and some people prefer this design and also woodcraft is the only place I found hat sells that design. Easy to make but don't care for the lack of threads on the insert. The plastic part holding the ceramic cutter looks like it won't hold over time but we'll see... So if the holder or blade brake the whole thing can be thrown away since the insert has to be glued or epoxied. Not good. The blade can't be reversed so the peeler can be used by a left-handed person; why is this so poorly designed ??? It wouldn't take much for the blade to be reversible, but some right-handed person that never uses a peeler decided that it would be one side fits all; oh well.... I won't by this peeler again.

    Peeler

This was a Christmas present for my wife and she absolutely loves it. It cuts well and is very sharp. ONE comment it really is only for a right handed person and she is left handed. The unit cuts well but is difficult to use for a left handed person.

    Pass

The head snapped off the first one as I was inserting it into the handle, but maybe I put some lateral pressure on it, not sure. The second one definitely broke within a year with light use. The plastic piece that holds the ceramic cutter snapped.
